Getting a hunting license in the state of Texas..?

Question: Never had one before and this will be my first year to hunt. Can i just go buy a license or do I need anything else? Is it REQUIRED to take the Safety Course before you can get your first license?

Answer: To hunt in Texas, all hunters must pass a hunter's education course. This is not necessary if you were born before 1970. The course is usually 10 hrs long, over 2 days, cost about $20.00. To buy a license, you don't have to have certification, the seller will not ask, but if a warden asks for your license, checks your age, they will ask for the certification card, no card = ticket. You can also do a one-time deferral which will be noted on your license and get you out of having to take the course for 1 year.
